Doctor Trevor

Today Trevor got to be the guest teacher in Abby's class. This whole month the class has been learning about bodies, and being healthy and today they learned about taking care of their teeth from our favorite dentist. Here is Trevor with our buddy Tooth-a-saurus Rex. He showed the kids the right way to brush their teeth.

Abby got to be Trevor's assistant. She got to chew a special tablet that made her teeth turn pink if they had any spots that needed to be brushed. She was great at swishing the tablet around with her tounge makings sure to cover every surface.

Here she is brushing off the pink spots. She was the perfect assistant. She was so excited to have her daddy in class with her. She even woke up early this morning because she was so excited...you would have thought that it was Christmas!

Beans and Blankets

Kyle is a VERY picky eater. I have no idea how he decides what will and will not make it into his mouth. When he does not want something that I put on his tray he will fling it off with both hands. He gets some great distance. Sometimes he will pick up a piece of food, examine it closely, and then throw it as far as he can. Then he will pick up another piece of the same kind of food and put it in his mouth. I have NO IDEA how that little brain works. One thing this boy really likes are black beans. You would think that with this happy face and all the mess that it would be something like chocolate that he is eating but really he gets this happy with black beans.

He does not eat very much at dinner time and we usually have to resort to giving him all sorts of things to keep him entertained while we try to finish. He loves utensils...the bigger the better.

All of my kids have formed very strong attachments to their blankets. I told myself that if I made one for Kyle that I would make two so that we could avoid scenes like the one pictures above. Well when it came time to make his blanket I did not have the time, energy or money to make two blankets so scenes like this are sure to be repeated often at our house for the next year or two. The blanket really does need to be washed at least once and while right???

Snow

Of course Philly would pick our last winter out here to decide to break all the records for snow...could it not have just waited one more year??? We had two record breaking snow storms within five days of each other. The girls only went to school one day that week and even Trevor had school canceled twice!
We spent lots of time playing the Wii and just being lazy and everyone except Trevor got sick at least once. We also made really cute Valentines cards with LOTS of steps to keep the girls entertained.
School was actually canceled on the day of their school parties but they were still excited to take them to school when they FINALLY got to go back.
I use to laugh at people who put their lawn chairs in their parking spaces to save their spots but after Trevor spent over two hours digging out our two cars I now lay claim to my spot with one of our beach chairs. This is Emma helping Trevor dig out. Her job was to climb up on top of the car and kick the snow off.

This was the view from our front door...most people look out and see beauty but all I see is danger, cold and messed up schedules. Our move to California in a couple of months has never looked so good.

Emma did get to build a snowman with Trevor. It has a carrot nose and dum dum eyes. She even gave it her hat and scarf.

This snowman was built on top of a solid 18 inches of ice that had about 6 inches of useful snow on top of it.

This is my normal parking spot...I will be lucky if I get it back by May! I know that I sound all doom and gloom but I am REALLY done with all this white stuff. I guess I will always be a California girl!

Haircut, Jail, and Walking

Kyle's hair has been getting shaggy! I have known for a while that he needed his first cut but I had a hard time cutting it. I made lots of excuses and really I did not know how to do it, but really I just did not want to cut it because it seemed like too big of a sign of growing up to me. Here is the before shot. It was really long and pretty uneven.

We used the clippers and Kyle was really afraid of them at first but he got the hang of it about half way through and was smiling by the time we were done. I could not believe how much hair was on the floor!

I had a really hard time getting use to it but I like it now. It makes his look so much older. I don't think I will go so short next time but it was nice to make it all even.

Unfortunately Kyle spent this weekend in jail! Kyle had his adenoids removed and tubes put in his ears on Friday. The surgery went well but Kyle had a rough time coming out of anesthesia. The combination of mucus from his constant colds, not taking deep breaths, and possibly aspirating some apple juice gave him pneumonia and landed him in the hospital and back on oxygen. It was really tough to see him like that again. I knew things were bad when he was not trying to pull off his cannula.

After a couple of days of oxygen, rest and some good medicine Kyle was feeling like his old self. The hardest part was keeping him entertained in a tiny room when all he wanted to do was get down and move around. This is him minus his cannula...I knew we were on our way home when he ripped if off and started yelling at me that he wanted "dow" which is his way of saying he wants to go anywhere but where he is. We are so grateful for an AWESOME doctor who took great care of Kyle and for all the help we got taking care of our girls. We are not planning on any more surgeries!

Kyle started walking a couple of weeks ago. This video is the best that we have been able to get. He has gotten a lot better. Walking is now his preferred mode of transportation.
