Thank Lowes!
Thanks to my friend Jordan and Lowes hardware store my Saturday was saved. Every second and fourth Saturday of the month Lowes has a FREE kids building project. So we headed out with some of our friends to check it out. This week the kids got to make squirrel feeders.
Abby was not a huge fan of the goggles but she wore them for the picture and then they spent the rest of the time on her head. Abby's feeder was completed with the help of a wonderful Lowes employee. I was so grateful for how kind he was to all of our kids.
Emma was very good with the hammer. I don't think that she hit her finger once which is more than I can say for her mom.
The finished projects! We already have big plans to paint them up and hang them outside. Thanks Jordan for telling us about this and saving our Saturday!

Who Should I Be Mad At?
Well last night we got lots of snow and it was still snowing this morning. I am not the best estimator but it seemed like 12 feet. Anyway I got up this morning and watched the news totally expecting the schools to all be closed and they were except for the school district of the wonderful city of Philadelphia. I went back and forth for about an hour on whether I should just let Emma stay home. I finally decided that I was being a baby and I just needed to suck it up and take her to school. Well after about 10 minutes of desnowifying my car, Emma and I said a prayer and set off for the school. The whole time I had a pit in my stomach and I am sure the beginning of an ulcer. We got there without any major incidents, although it did take me twice as long as usual. I walked into the school to find one other girl there in Emma's class. When the teacher showed up there was a grand total of 4 kids! I asked them if they ever change their minds and cancel school once the decision has been made and I was assured that they never had. I slowly made my way home, the whole time my new ulcer continued to grow as I thought about having to go back out to get her in a few hours. I continued to worry all morning (I really felt physically ill) until around 11:00 I got a call from Emma's student teacher telling me that they had decided to do an early dismissal. I went back out to get her without any problems. So the whole point of this is who should I be mad at for the new ulcer in my stomach. Should I be mad at the school district for not cancelling school in the first place or should I just be mad at myself for not going with my original instinct to just keep her home. Personally I have decided to blame the school district since I am too much of a straight arrow to ignore the rules. If they said school was open then who am I to go against the rules, even though just about every other parent was smart enough to do just that this morning.
We did try to enjoy the snow. Abby spent most of her time falling and trying to get back up. She was wearing so many layers she could hardly move. She is a cutie!
Yes that is a sword in her hand. NOT very safe and I did not even notice until I uploaded the picture to the blog.
Emma did not miss out on playing in the snow. She went out as soon as we got home from school. I still don't think that she has a single cold receptor in her body. Look at her sitting in the snow.
Emma's favorite snow pastime is eating it. Her prayer for snow has been answered!

Sneaky Abby
Anyone who knows me knows that I am not the greatest morning person but I would like to think that in the last year or so I have made amazing progress. This morning I realized that I really am not at the top of my game in the early morning hours. This morning I came home from my walk to find that Abby was already awake. This is not completely out of the ordinary since she has been waking up earlier and earlier these days. Anyway instead of coming right up to me and giving me a hug like she usually does in the morning she went and sat down in the corner next to the television where her blankie already was. I thought that this was strange but I called her over to me and she came and gave me a hug. I thought that she smelled a little sweeter than normal but I chalked it up to the new shampoo that we had used the night before. After giving her a hug I went into the kitchen where I saw our Halloween bucket (Yes we got that much candy at Halloween) sitting on the floor. I had left it on the counter the night before and Abby had gotten it down. I did not see any evidence that she had eaten any (she usually leaves her wrappers on the floor) so I put it back in its normal place on top of the fridge. I made lunches and Abby came into the kitchen and asked me for some candy. I told her no and that we did not eat any candy before lunch. She seemed okay with that answer (this should have totally tipped me off since she is never okay when I say no to candy) and I got her some breakfast. I really should have put the clues together by then and later in the day I would have but I guess I still was not really awake. So I went upstairs and took my shower. When I came downstairs Abby was back in the corner by the television but this time she had a GIANT wad of candy in her mouth. I wish that my camera had batteries in it so that I could have taken a picture. She looked pretty pleased with herself and she was sitting in a pile of Starburt wrappers. Needless to say I told her that she would not be getting any more candy today and made her clean up the wrappers. I still can believe that my 3 year old was able to be so sneaky!!! What am I going to do when she is a teenager, especially if she figures out my lack of brain function in the early hours of the day?????

Score one for Shawmont!!!
Today I went into Emma's school to help out with their Valentines day party. In the past the class parties have been HUGE!!! At Halloween Emma came home with a gallon size ziploc FULL of junk food and the parents are the ones who bring it all in. There were cookies, brownies, carmel apples, and don't forget the candy. I ended up throwing the whole bag away because all the food was squished together. Well today the class had a heathly food party. It was great!!! Each kid was given a assignment to do a report on a certain fruit or veggie and bring in that fruit. Emma had blueberries. The kids were so cute giving their reports, especially since some of them did not like the thing that they were reporting on. (Sorry I don't have pictures but my camera was out of batteries.) It was so fun to watch the kids chow down on their healthy food. Some of them were trying things that they had never even seen before. Emma's teacher also told me that I could bring Abby to the party. I have not seen Abby that excited in a long time. She was so glad to be treated like a big girl. She sat on the carpet with the kids and raised her hand when the teacher asked questions and clapped when all the other kids did. Some of the kids in Emma's class even gave her Valentines. It was a nice afternoon and so nice to see that kids will eat healthy food when they are given the opportunity.

Emma the Seamstress
Maybe February is Not That Bad...
So far the month that I dread every year has not been that bad. It has only snowed twice all winter and both times it was gone the next day. We have gone to the park a few times and played in the front yard lots. Of course as I am writing this the wind is howling outside and the wind chill tomorrow is suppose to be in the single digits but the month is a third over and so far it has not been bad so I am sorry February for bad mouthing you and please remember that I said I was sorry so there is not need to let it get too cold outside!
The girls enjoying a day at the park. It was almost 70 degrees that day!!! Emma is getting better at swinging herself and Abby is a daredevil who wants me to push her as high as possible.
Yep she is going down the slide head first. Luckily the slide is pretty sticky so she was not able to pick up too much speed.
Emma could not have been happier to just be outside. She does not care how cold it is she just likes to be outdoors.

I have been tagged again by my sister Karina...I kind of like these but if they bore you please don't feel obligated to read any of it, I will still be your friend.
4 jobs I have had...
1. Pizza Hut in Provo...even afer working there and seeing how much grease goes into makes the deep dish pizza I still love them.
2. Laundry worker in the RB at BYU...sweaty nasty work out clother!!! Very gross but I was a poor freshman and the job was in walking distance from my dorm.
3. Intramural office at BYU...same building but a total step up from the laundry. There is nothing like being yelled at by someone who's reliving their high school basketball glory days.
4. NICU nurse at American Fork Hospital...I loved it. Having that job back would almost make me want to move back to Utah.

1. Provo UT
2. Omaha NE
3. Spokane WA
4. New York NY

New Hair Styles
I have been wanting to get Emma's hair cut for a while now. Short hair just fits her personality and her ability to sit still. Jodee was kind enough to make a house call and she was so patient with Emma asking every 30 seconds if she was almost done.
She loved wearing the cape but she had an extrememly hard time holding still. It is a good thing that Jodee has such a steady hand.
Abby also really wanted to get her hair cut. I really like Abby's long so she just had a few layers put into it and she held very still. I was way suprised!
Pretty good amount of hair on the floor! I was suprised that Emma had that much taken off. Her hair grows soooo fast.
The final results. She loves her short hair and I think that it is perfect and so much easier for me.
You probably can't tell any difference in Abby's hair but I just could not leave her out. They both look beautiful. Thank you so much Jodee!

Groundhog's Day
Emma came home from school on Friday and told me all about Groundhog's day. She wanted to "Get up early and watch the groundhog see his shadow so we could have 6 more weeks of winter." We did get up the next day and watch Phil climb out of his hole and see his shadow. It is strange to me that she is now away from me for so much of the day and learning so many things that I would never even think to tell her about. By the way she is thrilled that we have 6 more weeks of winter. She is still praying for some snow.
