Laughing

St. Patty's Day

What a cute little leprechaun! She was so excited to celebrate and her Grandma Griffitts would be pleased.Emma had to wear her uniform to school but she did get to decorate her shirt with green stickers.
For dinner we had green waffles and green milk. It was a hit with the girlies.
Abby did not have any green clothes so we used some stickers and she wore a green necklace that said "Happy St. Patricks Day" Her favorite part of the day was the cupcakes at preschool with green sprinkles.
For dessert we had mint pie. It was just pudding and Cool Whip with some food coloring and Andes mints but it was a hit. We did not have the traditional corned beef and cabbage but we had a great day.

Iron Chef: Battle Honey

I am going to play a little catch up...last Saturday we had the first of hopefully many Iron Chef battles. It was very casual and lots of fun. We drew our secret ingredient in the middle of the afternoon and of course the ingredient I was pretty nervous about won...honey. The only thing I have ever used honey for is to make Trevor a peanut butter and honey sandwich but with the help of the Internet we found a pretty tasty dessert.
The Cardon's had the appetizers and made yummy scones with honey butter and tasty chicken fingers with honey mustard sauce. I ate way more than my share of scones...they were really good.

The Johnson's has the main dish and made really good honey hamburgers. They were really juicy and full of flavor and the grilled pineapple was the perfect addition.
For dessert we had honey berry shortcake. I was really nervous to make the shortcake because I don't have very good luck with anything involving dough but they turned out really well. We added berries and a honey butter glaze and it turned out pretty good.
After dinner the entertainment was fabulous. The kids had a great time playing Rock Band. Little Lucy was so cute and caught on really quickly and sang "Eye of the Tiger" right along with the big kids. We had a great time and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good excuse to get together with some friends. If we can pull it off with our small kitchens and little kids running around our feet than anyone can do it.

Orioles Basketball

Emma finished her first of many basketball seasons. She had a blast! It was so fun to watch her and her team improve with every game. She played in a very low key league that focused on fundamentals and teamwork. It was perfect for Emma. She learned to dribble and got really good at getting rebounds. Trevor took her to most of her games and always took the time to do a little teaching after each game.
This was a common sight during any game. Poor kid does not know which team member to pass it to.
Look at the form in that chest pass.
Emma played great defense and by the end of the season she had turned into quite the little hustler. She went after every loose ball.
Great defensive stance!

The kids got to play in 4 minute increments. While they were on the bench they found ways to entertain themselves.
Getting ready to take a shot.
She really had a great time and learned lots.
Here is the team. Emma was lucky to get to play with such great kids and she is already talking about next year.

6 months!!!

I know that this post is almost a week late but better late than never. I think that part of the problem is that I am in denial that Kyle is really 6 months old. It is funny because I feel like I was in the hospital so long ago but at the same time I don't feel like I have had Kyle for six whole months. We went to the doctor yesterday and the doctor thinks he is doing great. He weighed 14lbs 1oz and was 26 inches long. He is in the 3 percentile for weight and the 23rd for height. He really put on a show for the doctor which included rolling over for the first time. I got so excited when he did it that I clapped and cheered and scared him half to death so we will see if he does it again any time soon. I could not resist talking a picture with his hat on. He does not like wearing hats...or maybe he just does not like winter hats. We will have to try out a baseball cap soon.
This is where I find Kyle's cannula most of the time. He loves to suck on his fingers and that means that he gets his fingers stuck in his tubing and ends up pulling it into his mouth. He is getting pretty raw cheeks from his repeated attempts to rip the cannula off his face. The good news is that he is still doing really well with his time off oxygen while he is awake. He has not had any trouble even though his time awake is increasing.
This boy is a drooler!!! With all that spit we get lots of bubbles and he has also learned how to spit which makes feeding time interesting.
We had some warm weather last weekend so Kyle got to hang out outside for the first time. It was a little breezy and every time the wind blew he would scrunch up his face and close his eyes. It was fun to watch him experience something new. In the last month Kyle has also mastered sleeping in his big boy crib and continues to be an AMAZING sleeper! He has also gotten much more cooperative with his occupational therapy sessions. He is spending lots more time on his tummy which is the best thing he can do to strengthen his neck muscles so he can hold up his head. He can lay on his side unsupported and continues to get more use out of his hands.

Kyle has also gotten much more vocal. It is so fun to have little "conversations" with him.

His sisters still adore him and he continues to put up with a lot of "affection"...I think that he just really wants a bite of their popsicles. We love our little guy and continue to marvel at the miracle of his life. Everyday brings new evidence of the Lord's hand in our life. We could not be happier!

A Style All Her Own!

Abby LOVES to wear skirts. If she had it her way there would not be a single pair of pants in her drawer. I asked her to go and get dressed for preschool and she came into my room wearing short sleeves and one of her favorite skirts. Although she looked VERY cute I just would not have felt like a very good mom sending her out into single digit temps dressed in so little. I asked her to go put on long sleeves and pants. This was the result... You have to hand it to her...the girl is creative. I thought that it was the perfect compromise.
The outfit was completed with snow boots and her ginormous coat. What can I say except the girls got style!
